*Tools & Products to Renew Aging & Sun Damaged Skin as Seen on Afternoon Live
I am so excited to once again be joining Tra'Renee on the KATU Afternoon Live show! This time around I will be sharing some tools and products that I recommend to help rejuvenate aging and sun damaged skin.
First up are the tools that I recommend to help keep skin looking young and fresh. I have several beauty tools that I alternate into my skincare routine but the ones that I use on a regular basis are definitely my Derma Roller and my Dry Brush. I let my skin dictate which tool to use, however, when it comes to using a Derma Roller how often you use it also depends on what size the microneedles are. You can safely use a Derma Roller with 0.1mm needles 2-3 times a week. I like to use a Derma Roller with 0.5mm-1.0mm needles which means I can only use it 1-2 times per month. Dry Brushing can be done 1-2 times per week. I like to Dry Brush once a week and then skip a week and incorporate my Derma Roller. However, it's important to never combine these types of treatments so that your skin has time to heal.
Facial Focus Derma Roller
I love using a Derma Roller! I think it's the quickest and easiest way to rejuvenate your skin. If you have never heard of a Derma Roller it's basically a wheel covered in hundreds of surgical steel needles. These needles create tiny holes in the skin which makes your skin produce extra collagen and elastin to heal those tiny holes and speed up cell turnover. It will also allow your skincare products to reach deeper into the skin and really do what their made to do. The result is healthier, plumper and younger looking skin. Using a Derma Roller can help diminish the look of fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, pigmentation, scars and other common skin problems.
It's important to start with a clean face and a clean Derma Roller and to not use it on any open wounds. After I cleanse my skin I like to apply a thin layer of Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater, just enough to dampen the skin but you can also just use tap water. However, this wold also be a great time to apply your favorite hydrating serum. I don't recommend using any serums with Vitamin C Serums or anything with Retinol while you are using a Derma Roller since it can possibly over irritate the skin. To being Derma Rolling just roll the DermaRoller across the skin diagonally, horizontally, and then vertically. You don't need to apply a lot of pressure but I like to press as hard as I can without it being too painful. I tend to focus more on my problem areas where I have pigmentation, fine lines and scars and that works best for me. I also take it down my neck and into my decollete area as well. The most important step is to follow up your Derma Roller treatment with a hydrating oil or moisturizer that's suited for your skin type. I like to apply the Tulasāra Radiant Oleation Oil by Aveda and once that is absorbed into the skin I follow it up with Honey Drop Moisturizer by Farmacy. I tend to do this as part of my nightly skincare routine and when I wake up my skin is plump, glowing and more youthful looking!
Lately, I have been using the 1.0mm Facial Focus Derma Roller which retails for $27.00. However, I have also purchased many Derma Rollers on Amazon.com for a lot less that work just as good. The 0.25mm Derma Roller by ORA retails for $19.99 and is a great choice if your new to micorneedeling. Make sure to clean your Derma Roller after every use with rubbing alcohol and it should be replaced after about 15 uses.
Tulasāra Radiant Facial Dry Brush
Dry Brushing is a ancient Ayurveda technique that helps exfoliate dead skin cells from the skin surface to promote skin cell turnover. It helps prep the skin to more easily absorb oils and moisturizers resulting in softer, smoother younger looking and feeling skin. In just one minute you can reveal fresh, new skin.
I've used other Facial Dry Brushes but this Tulasāra Radiant Facial Dry Brush by Aveda is by far the best one I've ever used and totally worth the investment. The brush retails for $44.00 but it's made with super soft nylon bristles which are formed in rounded, massaging peaks which works perfectly to lift skin and brush away dead skin. Perfection.
Dry Brush 2-3 times a week and again, it's important to follow with nice hydrating oil or moisturizer that is suited for you skin type. I always follow my dry brushing session with the Tulasāra Radiant Oleation Oil by Aveda which go hand in hand and the combination gives you a radiant and glowing complexion.
Tulasāra Radiant Oleation Oil by Aveda
This Tulasāra Radiant Oleation Oil by Aveda is the perfect follow up oil. Just a few drops is all you need to nourish, balance, hydrate and restore skin. However, this oil is not just for use with Derma Rolling or Dry Brushing this is a lightweight oil that is easily absorbed and can be used everyday. When not using with my Derma Roller or Dry Brush I like to use this as part of my nightly skincare routine. I gently press and then massage the oil into my face, neck and decolette. I always love how my skin looks in the morning. Soft, supple and glowing!
The Tulasāra Radiant Oleation Oil by Aveda retails for $49.00 for 1.7 oz.
